Overview

The Leader-on-Duty must ensure that every member of staff is building relationships by following the Staff Pledge. In addition, this person (in the absence of any other ranking director or coordinator) will be responsible for the overall supervision of the YMCA building and grounds. This person must be able to supervise staff and volunteers and make sure that everyone follows safety standards and policies of the Y.

 

Supervises: Will act as the “department supervisor” for all departments in the absence of any other higher-ranking director or coordinator.

Rotating Shifts

(Each position will follow a schedule for the first week, then have a different schedule for the second week, then rotate back to the first week's schedule. This rotation will continue every two weeks.)

 

*Position 1:

     Week 1: Sunday 10am-6:30p, Monday 6p-10:30p, and Wednesday 6pm-10:30p

     Week 2: Monday 6p-10:30p, and Wednesday 6pm-10:30p, and Saturday 8a-5:30p

 

*Position 2:

     Week 1: Monday 6p-9p, Tuesday 6p-10:30p, Thursday 6p-10:30p, and Saturday 8a-5:30p

     Week 2: Sunday 10a-6:30p, Monday 6p-9p, Tuesday 6p-10:30p, and Thursday 6p-10:30p

 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Be the ambassador of Y culture and a role model of our service and engagement principles.
  2. Connect members of the Y to our cause and our mission.
  3. In the absence of any other YMCA director or coordinator, the leader on duty will be:  **Responsible for all programs and facility operations of the branch, including the pool area; all staff assignments, all membership-related concerns, and serving as a primary responder for any incidents.  **Responsible for the opening/closing of the branch facility, as well as monitoring security procedures and facility operations during the assigned shift.
  4. Will act as the senior staff person during his/her shift. He/She will determine when to contact senior management regarding matters of program/membership delivery and facility operations.
  5. Promote member engagement by encouraging involvement in related Y programs and small communities.
  6. Know all emergency procedures and be able to demonstrate them.
  7. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
  8. Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. At least 21 years of age
  2. Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions.
  3. American Red Cross CPR-PR/AED/First Aid Certifications or equivalent certifications approved by the YMCA.
  4. American Red Cross Blood Borne Pathogens Training or equivalent training approved by the YMCA.
  5. Y Orientation Session.
  6. Y Emergency Procedures Training.
  7. YMCA Healthy Lifestyles Principles.
  8. Satisfactory demonstration of instructor skill competencies.
