POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position is responsible for the physical condition of the building and grounds, including but not limited to, general building maintenance, apartment maintenance, grounds keeping, Geo-Thermal maintenance, and wellness center equipment, ensuring that routine and non-routine maintenance is performed. May also complete duties related to unit turnovers & inspections (cleaning and sanitizing), window washing, running errands for supplies or equipment needs, snow removal, working with volunteers and other related responsibilities.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ensure Y is attractive, clean and hazard-free by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintains upkeep of assigned areas and equipment.  Perform wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash removal, recycling, window washing, painting, vacuuming, laundry, seasonal activities dealing with lawn care and snow removal, and general cleaning.
  2. Perform routine HVAC, plumbing, electrical, geo-thermal and equipment check and repairs.
  3. Perform general carpentry work and repairs.
  4. Ensure preventative maintenance plan in implemented and maintained.
  5. Complete projects assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
  6. Operates related motorized and non-motorized equipment.
  7. Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.
  8. Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
  9. Replaces soap, paper towels, and other supplies.
  10. Support contracted services related to building and grounds
  11. May set up furniture for events.
  12. Supports Building & Grounds Supervisor with SHC duties.
  13. Follow all “Fair Housing” regulations and practices.
  14. Serve as a YMCA representative, both within the organization and outside the organization.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned.
  16. Demonstrates and supports the objectives of the organization as embodied in the mission statement and values.

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to read, write and perform simple mathematical functions.
  2. Two years or more of related experience preferred.
  3. Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents.
  4. Ability to report and record maintenance requests.
  5. Knowledge of cleaning methods and equipment.
  6. Basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment.
  7. Understanding of cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  1. Sufficient physical strength and agility to carry out essential duties.
  2. Ability to erect and stand on ladders and platforms at heights up to 30 feet.
  3. Ability to work with paint, cleaning equipment, chemical compounds, solvents, cleaners, and solutions in dry, liquid, powder, spray, and aerosol forms.
  4. Ability to paint, clean equipment, and operate motorized equipment as needed.
  5. Ability to work in conditions that will create dirt and dust.
  6. Ability to perform essential maintenance to facility or equipment which may involve, but not limited to the following activities: semi – reaching to full-reach overhead; crouching; kneeling; shoveling; carrying, working in narrow and/or confining spaces: underground, overhead, and at ground level; twisting of the waist, shoulders, and legs; and lying on stomach and/or back.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  This position usually works in an office and/or fitness oriented environment, but the mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces.  This position works a standard work week, but additionally will often work evening, weekend, and additional hours to accommodate management of program activities, building coverage and representation of the organization at events.
