This position is responsible for creating and leading a camp culture and environment that supports our program objectives of Belonging, Achievement and Relationships, supervising and engaging program participants and staff, organizing and managing program activities, and establishing positive relationships with campers, parents and staff team members.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Create a camp atmosphere that fosters a sense of Belonging among campers and helps them gain confidence through Achievement while building Relationships with and among campers.  
  2. Create and maintain a safe environment both physically and emotionally for all Campers
  3. Establish a relaxed, unstructured feel to your camp activities, with more emphasis on the “how" and the “why" of the activities rather than on the activities themselves.  
  4. Lead, supervise, evaluate and provide feedback for camp staff team
  5. Ensure planning is in place for Choice Activities, Large Group Activities and Club Time
  6. Engage Camp Leaders and Campers in the planning of activities
  7. Plan and orchestrate camps daily flow 
  8. Make sure schedules, supplies, materials, etc. are ready for each day of camp
  9. Maintain the Y-Voice in all that you say, do, and think in regards to your camp program ~ Welcoming, Nurturing, Hopeful, Determined, Genuine
  10. Establish positive relationships with Campers, Camp Leaders and parents
  11. Plan and lead Team Meetings in a way that reflects the values you want to see in camp
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
  13. Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions
  2. American Red Cross CPR-PR/AED/First Aid Certifications or equivalent certifications approved by the YMCA
  3. American Red Cross Blood Borne Pathogens Training or equivalent training approved by the YMCA
  4. Y Leaders Orientation Session
  5. Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter certification
  6. Must be at least 21 years of age
  7. At least two years previous day camp or child care experience 
  8. Completion of Health History Form
  9. YMCA Day Camp Safety Training
  10. YMCA Online Training 

 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively with people and monitor property and activity
  2. Ability to adapt to changing work conditions
  3. Ability to perform moderate physical activity
