    The YMCA Supportive Housing Campus is a community solution to help eliminate homelessness by providing hope, dignity, and support in the form of permanent supportive housing.  The campus provides a place to call home for 140 men and women. 

     

     

    This position is responsible for facilitating and leading resident, volunteer, and donor involvement and relationship building and providing a deeper connection to the mission and cause of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines as it relates to the YMCA Supportive Housing Campus.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Create and plan program activities.
    2. Develop and implement promotion plan to advertise program.
    3. Manage and coordinate program activities.
    4. Recruit, retain, and recognize volunteers.
    5. Prepare reports and rosters using computer information.
    6. Develop and implement evaluation plan to learn results of program.
    7. Know emergency procedures and be able to demonstrate them to others.
    8. Respond to questions and concerns of program participants.
    9. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
    10. Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.
    11. Demonstrate an ability to participate in kitchen and food related opportunities.
    12. Ability to communicate with a Y-voice, demonstrating determination, genuine concern, a welcoming attitude, hopefulness and a nurturing spirit.
    13. Ability to demonstrate a desire to serve others and fulfill community needs.
    14. Ability to build rapport, create relationships, and foster a sense of community.
    15. Ability to work effectively with people of different background, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
    16. Ability to listen first, seeking to understand the other person’s point of view and remain calm in challenging situations.

    26. Attend trainings and/or courses to maintain certification as required by the YMCA.
    27. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to tenants and staff.
    28. Employees of the YMCA Supportive Housing Campus are not eligible to become residents at the YMCA Supportive Housing Campus.
    29. Residents of the YMCA Supportive Housing Campus are not eligible for employment with the YMCA Supportive Housing Campus branch during their time of residency.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    1. Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions
    2. One year previous experience working with volunteers, nonprofits, and/or communications
    3. American Red Cross CPR-PR/AED/First Aid Certifications or equivalent certifications approved by the YMCA
    4. American Red Cross Blood Borne Pathogens Training or equivalent training approved by the YMCA
    5. Online Y’s Intro to Cause & Culture Training
    6. Online YMCA New Employee Safety Training

     

    PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

    1. Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively with people and monitor property and activity
    2. Ability to perform moderate physical activity
    3. Ability to adapt to changing working conditions

     

    JOB REQUIREMENTS:
