    This position is responsible for leading, developing, managing, organizing and assisting in implementing assigned programs and program areas. This includes Aquatics, Learn & Play Center, Youth Programs, and Family Programs. This position supervises the program area coordinators, staff, volunteers and may manage community, vendor and strategic partner agreements and relationships.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

     

    PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT/MANAGMENT

    1. Create, develop and implement new programs.
    2. Manage assigned program areas and activities, ensuring programs comply with all applicable YMCA standards and methods of operation an continually strive to attain the highest possible level of quality.
    3. Expand participation in assigned programs.
    4. Evaluate and review all aspects of assigned programs to ensure consistent quality and safety.

     

    PROMOTION MANAGEMENT

    1. Assist in the development and distribution of materials to market and promote programs.
    2. Conduct marketing and promotion for assigned programs.
    3. Coordinate with corporate staff to ensure all marketing meets the standards and requirements of the
    4. association.

     

    FISCAL MANAGEMENT

    1. Prepare and submit required budget planning and management information for program area(s).
    2. Monitor assigned budget to ensure revenue and expenses are consistent with approved budget plan.
    3. Prepare and submit all required financial information and reports.

     

    HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

    1. Provide leadership and direction for multiple departments working directly with staff and working through program support staff.
    2. Create and foster a culture of belonging that exemplifies the Y Voice, relationship building, accountability, high standards, and over the top member service.
    3. Build a team of staff members who embody the Y culture and who connect to and feel ownership in our vision and Plans to achieve that vision. 
    4. Determine staffing needs of assigned program area(s) within YMCA guidelines and procedures.
    5. Assist in recruiting process and manage selection process as determined by guidelines and procedures.
    6. Conduct required orientation and training for assigned staff.
    7. Manage, supervise, and evaluate assigned staff to ensure satisfactory job performance.
    8. Establish sound communication procedures to ensure staff team members receive timely and accurate information.
    9. Provide leadership and guidance in developing staff teams and ensure access to development opportunities.
    10. Prepare and submit payroll paperwork and time/attendance information as required by YMCA policies and procedures and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

     

    MEMBER SERVICE/COMMUNITY RELATIONS

    1. Manage member and community resources to effectively and efficiently coordinate services.
    2. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
    3. Serve as a YMCA representative, both within the organization and outside the organization.
    4. Demonstrate and support the objectives of the organization as embodied in the mission statement and values.

     

    OTHER

    1. Assist in organization’s financial development efforts, including the annual fund raising campaign.
    2. Plan, prepare and organize special events as required. 
    3. Serve on organization and community committees and teams as required.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

     

      1. Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent
      2. Must be at least 21 years of age
      3. At least three to five years related program development, management and supervision experience
      4. Non-profit experience preferred
      5. American Red Cross CPR-PR/AED/First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogen Certifications or equivalent approved by the YMCA
      6. YMCA Intro to Cause & Culture Training
      7. Online YMCA New Employee Safety Orientation Training
      8. Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter Training (provided upon hire)
      9. Demonstrated computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment

     

     

     

    EFFECT ON END RESULT: Assist the YMCA of Greater Des Moines in providing members effective leadership, direction, guidance, and support positively impacting their engagement in the YMCA through programs and small communities.
